Maybach manufacture
The Maybach Manufactory was a division of Daimler AG that produced and sold Maybach limousines from 2002 to 2012 .
prehistory
Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH sold luxury automobiles under the Maybach brand from 1921 to 1941. 1960 Daimler-Benz took over Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH and with it the trademark rights. Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH was renamed MTU Friedrichshafen in 1969 .
history
In 2000, the Daimler-Benz successor group DaimlerChrysler (today Daimler AG ) announced that it would be selling vehicles under the Maybach brand again from 2002, and the first vehicles were finally delivered at the end of 2002. Initially, the models 57 and 62 were offered, which differed mainly in terms of vehicle length. In 2005 the additional model variants 57 S and 62 S as well as the concept vehicle Exelero were presented. Also in 2005, DaimlerChrysler sold the successor company to Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH, MTU Friedrichshafen; the trademark rights to Maybach were not affected. In 2007, a landaulet version of the 62 S was presented as a concept vehicle, which, due to the positive response, was custom-made from 2008 onwards.
The Maybach factory was part of the Mercedes-Benz Cars division in the Daimler Group , which brings together all of the Daimler AG passenger car brands. Production took place in a department of the Daimler plant in Sindelfingen, which the manufacturer referred to as a manufacture . The brand emblem (an interwoven double M) was modeled on the emblem that Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH used for its automobiles.
In November 2011, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche announced that the Maybach brand would be discontinued in 2012 in favor of further models of the Mercedes S-Class . The Maybach limousines were sold until 2013, after which the Maybach name was no longer to be used.
On December 17, 2012, the last Maybach vehicle left the Maybach factory at the Daimler plant in Sindelfingen.
At the end of 2014, however, the renewed use of the name Maybach by the Daimler Group was announced. Among other things, exclusive derivatives of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class with the Maybach suffix are now on offer . Since then, Maybach has continued to operate as the Mercedes-Maybach premium brand .
