Friedrich von Derenthall

Friedrich Wilhelm Karl Eduard von Derenthall (born June 13, 1797 in Butow , Saatzig district , † May 26, 1874 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Anton Philipp Ludwig Friedrich Otto von Derenthall († October 31, 1831 in Jakobshagen ) and his wife Elisabeth Ida Bernhardine, née von Normann . His father was court marshal to Princess Amalie of Prussia and Lord of Butow and Wallbruch.

Military career

Derenthall joined the "Queen" Dragoon Regiment of the Prussian Army on January 1, 1814 as a dragoon during the Wars of Liberation . There he was appointed Portepeefähnrich on January 29, 1815 and promoted to Second Lieutenant on May 7, 1815 . From 1819 Derenthall served as regimental adjutant, became prime lieutenant in June 1825, and at the end of March 1826 came to Breslau as adjutant to the 11th division . Four years later he was transferred as adjutant to the 1st Guards Cavalry Brigade . With his promotion to Rittmeister on July 21, 1832, Derenthall became chief of the 6th Squadron in the Regiment of the Gardes du Corps in Berlin . Within the regiment, he then alternately commanded other squadrons, was promoted to major on March 22, 1843 , and a regular staff officer on March 31, 1846 . January 25, 1850 to April 24, 1854, he served as commander of the 8th Cuirassier Regiment and was in this position in the meantime on 19 April 1851 to lieutenant colonel , and on March 23, 1852 Colonel promoted. As such, he was then in command of the Gardes du Corps regiment. On September 18, 1856, Derenthall was transferred to Magdeburg under appointment as commander of the 7th Cavalry Brigade , and a month later promoted to major general. In recognition of his achievements in troop leadership, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on February 24, 1857 .

On April 5, 1859, Derenthall did not comply with his requested departure. Instead, he received on June 14, 1859 post as commander of Wroclaw and was on May 3, 1860 as Lieutenant General with board for disposition made. In subsequent recognition of his services, King Wilhelm I awarded him the star of the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, on March 22, 1863 .

After his death, he was buried on May 28, 1874 in the Invalidenfriedhof . Derenthall was a legal knight of the Order of St. John .
