Mia (spelling: mia) is an electrically powered mini car with three or four seats in the form of a minivan . The vehicle was produced from 2010 to 2014. The manufacturer, Mia electric , declared bankruptcy in 2014; In 2018, the Swiss company Fox Automotive, based in Herisau, announced that it had acquired assets, including trademark rights and patents, in the process for the Mia; a production in Hungary was targeted for 2019.

General / development

The Mia was developed in 2007 by the body manufacturer Heuliez and manufactured as a prototype. In 2008 the car was presented at the Paris Motor Show in Paris under the name Friendly . In Germany, it was exhibited at the first German Electromobile Congress in Bonn in 2009. As a sales promotion, Heuliez initially offered buyer registrations for EUR 10 in 2009, and later pre-reservations of the vehicle for EUR 500. After Heuliez went bankrupt, the electric vehicle division was taken over on July 1, 2010 by the Franco-German company Mia electric under the main shareholder and pharmaceutical entrepreneur Prof. Edwin Kohl (73.4%). The design was further developed under the direction of the designer Murat Günak . In spring 2010 the vehicle was exhibited at several trade fairs.

Originally, the vehicle with a 6 kWh battery was supposed to cost EUR 14,990. At the beginning of 2011, the nominal capacity of the small battery variant was given as 8 kWh, with a 12 kWh battery being offered as an option. The start of delivery of 1,500 vehicles was announced for June 2011, this date was postponed later. According to the company, production of the Mia began at the French plant in Cerizay in June 2011 . Factory employees were given the first vehicles to test. From December 2011, 1,000 vehicles per month will be built in series production. The sale will initially be made to commercial or fleet customers; private buyers will only be supplied from 2012. On February 14, 2011, eleven municipal utilities from East Westphalia announced that they wanted to use Mia models for their fleets in the future. Since April 2013 mia has been operating alongside France , Germany and the like. a. European countries also offered in Austria . In 2014 the sale was stopped due to the company's bankruptcy.

A special feature of the concept is the seating arrangement in which two to three passengers can sit behind the driver who is seated in the middle. The vehicle has two sliding side doors and a tailgate. The concept includes the choice between different sized batteries when ordering. This should make it possible to use basic models that can be upgraded later and are as inexpensive as possible. The price of the smallest variant “pure” with an 8 kWh battery should be around 19,500 EUR.

Also, one of a hydrogen - fuel cell -powered electric drive was developed.
