from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Günther Schuh (born November 19, 1958 in Cologne ) is a German engineer and has held the chair for Production Systems at RWTH Aachen University since 2002 . He is also director of the FIR - Research Institute for Rationalization e. V. , member of the board of directors of the machine tool laboratory WZL at RWTH Aachen University and the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT). He is co-founder of the electric vehicle manufacturer Streetscooter , managing director of the electric vehicle manufacturer e.GO Mobile and CFO of the company e.SAT, which was founded in 2018 for the development of the Silent Air Taxi. Another university task is the management of RWTH Aachen Campus GmbH . From 2008 to 2012 he was Vice Rector for Industry and Business at RWTH Aachen University.

Life

From 1978 to 1985, Günther Schuh studied mechanical engineering and the post-graduate course in business administration as an architect at RWTH Aachen University . In 1988 he received his doctorate in engineering with distinction, also at RWTH Aachen University. He obtained his habilitation in Switzerland from 1990 to 1993 at the University of St. Gallen (HSG).

During his doctorate, he initially worked as a research assistant and from 1988 as a senior engineer at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Operations Management (WZL) at RWTH Aachen University. From this position he founded GPS mbH in Herzogenrath in 1989 and remained its managing director until 1996. He then became active in management consulting with Schuh & Co. GmbH in Würselen .

In 1990 he became a full-time lecturer for manufacturing management and industrial management at the University of St. Gallen. This led to a professorship for business production management at the same university in 1993 .

In 2002 he was appointed to the professorship for production systematics in Aachen , succeeding Walter Eversheim , and as a member of the board of directors of the WZL and the IPT .

In June 2010, Schuh and Achim Kampker founded StreetScooter GmbH , a privately organized research initiative that, together with 80 medium-sized companies and numerous research institutions, developed the first electric vehicle specifically for short-haul traffic. The research initiative has meanwhile developed into an independent company.

For the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2012 , Schuh was nominated by the CDU's top candidate Norbert Röttgen as a member of his shadow cabinet . After Röttgen's electoral defeat and discussions in the RWTH Rectorate, Günther Schuh announced his early resignation as Vice Rector for Industry and Research at RWTH Aachen University on November 30, 2012.

As a co-founder of the electric vehicle manufacturer Streetscooter and managing director of the electric vehicle manufacturer e.GO Mobile , Schuh tries to implement a design for emission-free mobility that differs significantly from the approaches of the automotive industry.

Schuh is a member of the executive committee of the German Academy of Science and Engineering acatech .
