Walter Eversheim (born August 10, 1937 in Aachen ) is a German mechanical engineer. He is emeritus professor for production systematics at the machine tool laboratory WZL of the RWTH Aachen .

Life

Walter Eversheim grew up in Stolberg -Büsbach and attended the Goethe-Gymnasium in Stolberg. After graduating from high school, he studied mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University from 1957 to 1962. In 1965 he did his doctorate there with his "foster father" Prof. Herwart Opitz . He then worked in industry for Siemens and Philips . From 1973 to 2002 he was professor for production systematics at the WZL machine tool laboratory at RWTH Aachen University. He mainly researched issues relating to process organization , process costing and variant management . From 1980 to 2002 he also headed the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT), from 1990 he was also director of the Research Institute for Rationalization (FIR) and from 1981 to 1983 he was Vice Rector of RWTH. In 1989 he was appointed as a permanent visiting professor for technology management at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland). From 1997 to 2009 he was the spokesman for the board of directors of the Aachen Charlemagne Prize Society .

In 2002, he set up the Walter Eversheim Foundation to promote young people's interest in engineering and in training and further education.

Awards

Eversheim is a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) .
