The Tianjin University ( Chinese 天津 大学 , Pinyin Tiānjīn Dàxué ), until 1951 Peiyang University , is a state university in the People's Republic of China founded on October 2, 1895 .
The university is one of the universities in Project 211 and in 2005 had around 20,000 students and over 4,700 academic staff.
