The Nankai University ( Chinese 南开大学 , Pinyin Nankai Daxue ) is a public university in the People's Republic of China .
It is based in the Nankai District of Tianjin City , from which it takes its name.
Nankai University is one of the universities in Project 211 and in 2005 had around 21,000 students and around 4,300 academic staff. Several dozen foreign students are studying at Nankai University at any given time, mainly from Japan, the USA and various European countries. They have their own dormitory, cafeteria and courses, but they also have access to general courses at the university.
