Cao Xuetao

Cao Xuetao ( Chinese  曹雪涛 , Pinyin Cáo Xuě-tāo ; born July 19, 1964 in Shandong Province ) is a Chinese immunologist and has been President of Nankai University since January 2018 .

Live and act

Cao Xuetao studied medicine at the Second Military Medical University in Shanghai , received his doctorate in medicine there in 1986 and completed his postgraduate studies in immunology there in 1990 . He then worked as a lecturer in the immunology department at the Second Military Medical University, before he was appointed professor in the immunology department at the Second Military Medical University in 1993, as one of the youngest medical professors at the time. There he also acted as chairman of the department (1995–2011), as director of the Institute for Immunology (2000–2011) and as vice-president of the university (2004–2011).

In March 2011, he was named vice president of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences , before assuming the presidency of the academy in August of that year. In addition, he was Vice President of the Peking Union Medical College from August 2011 to November 2015 before taking over its presidency in November 2015. Since January 2018, Cao has been President of Nankai University in Tianjin . Cao was also President of the Chinese Society for Immunology (2006–2014), the Federation of Immunological Societies of Asia-Oceania (2012–2015) and the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (2014–2015).

Cao Xuetao is elected member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (2005), elected member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina ( 2013 ), elected foreign associate member of the French Académie nationale de médecine (2014), associate member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (2014) , elected member of the British Academy of Medical Sciences (2016), elected international member of the US National Academy of Medicine (2017) and elected foreign honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences ( 2018 ).

At the end of 2019, the American biologist Elizabeth Bik reported on PubPeer (a forum for scientific whistleblowing) that various articles from Xuetao contained strikingly similar images. Xuetao and his co-authors deny intentional fraud. The Chinese Academy of Engineering announced that it would investigate the case.
