Reinhard Cherubim

Reinhard Cherubim (born May 9, 1906 in Stettin ; † April 19, 1980 in Aachen ) was a German chess player , chess journalist, chess official and specialist in rating systems .

Life

Cherubim studied mathematics in Göttingen and did his doctorate on the subject of the method of effective wavelengths and their application to the open star cluster M 34 . He was a lieutenant in World War II . From 1948 to 1972 he taught at the boys' high school in Wattenscheid , the Märkische Schule . There he also led the school chess group. He integrated the youth players of the school chess group into the youth teams of SV Wattenscheid .

Chess activities

Cherubim took part in around 50 international chess tournaments and developed a special bond with the Hastings chess tournament . In Wattenscheid he won, with one interruption, all city championships between 1948 and 1960 as well as the championships of the Bochum chess district.

Cherubim also composed some chess problems .

Organizational activities

From 1947 on, cherubim played a major role in the introduction of the Ingo number , a valuation number, in Germany. When the Elo numbers appeared, he developed a conversion formula with which the Elo number can be determined from the Ingo number.

He also took on tasks in the German Chess Federation , in North Rhine-Westphalia (game director and from 1963 youth director) and in the Bochum district. In 1969 he became an international referee for FIDE . He received the golden badge of honor three times for his services.

He published and commented on numerous chess games in various chess magazines .
