The Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este is a beauty contest for historic automobiles and motorcycles that takes place in the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este in Cernobbio on Lake Como .

In Europe, the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este has developed into a meeting place for lovers of high-quality classic automobiles. Active automotive designers are also looking for ideas for their work there. In addition, the Villa d'Este , a former bishop's palace with a park, located directly on the lake, gives the event a very neat setting and a social touch.

The event traditionally takes place on the third weekend in May each year.

history

The event took place for the first time on September 1, 1929 with 80 participants and was then continued in loose succession. At that time, outstanding new releases on the automobile market were awarded the Coppa d'Oro Villa d'Este every year. In 1949, an Alfa Romeo 6C2500 styled by the Touring body shop won this award. So far, this car is the only one that also bears the name Villa d'Este in its type designation. This classic form of the event ended in 1952.

In the mid-1980s, the event was revived with today's concept for awarding noble vintage cars. Owners of well-kept old cars can show the result of their passion there by invitation. In 1999, the BMW Group took over the patronage of the event. Since 2005, organized BMW Group Classic together with the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este d'Este Concorso d'Eleganza Villa to.
