The 6C model series by the Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo was first presented to the public in 1925 and sold from 1927. The abbreviation 6C stands for sei cilindri ( six-cylinder ). The model series did not end until 1953.

At that time, Alfa Romeo was a manufacturer of complete chassis including engine and drive unit. The body shop was left to specialist companies that had made a name for themselves and were able to individually satisfy demanding customer requirements. These companies included Zagato , Touring , Castagna , Garavini , Pininfarina and James Young . It was not until 1933 that Alfa Romeo 6C models were also available with their own body, which were manufactured in the Portello plant.

  • The first 6C had a displacement of 1500 cm³ and were called the 6C 1500 accordingly . The engine developed 29 kW, later 32 kW, 40 kW in the S version and 44 kW in the SS version. The in- line engines already had overhead camshafts . There were also variants with a compressor that delivered 56 or 62 kW - number: 1,075.
  • In 1929, the successor to the 6C 1750 appeared , which has made a name for itself in motorsport , especially in the version with a Zagato body . The "white Flying Star" designed by Bianchi Anderloni and built by Touring has an output of 75 kW in the most powerfully charged version and a top speed of 170 km / h - number of units: 2579.
  • The 6C 1900 followed in 1933 and the 6C 2300 a year later . Cylinder heads made of light metal were used for the first time. The 6C 2500 followed in 1939 . The body styles on these models were very numerous. What they had in common, however, was the brand-defining characteristic of either a very sporty vehicle that was also suitable for motorsport, or a sporty, elegant touring car. The radiator grille already corresponded to the Alfa Romeo Scudetto .

After the end of the war, the 6C 2500 continued to be built from 1946. By 1953, 1,830 vehicles left the factory. The famous body variants from this production included the Freccia d'Oro, Villa d'Este and Corsa types.

The successor to the 6C model series was the Alfa Romeo 1900 , which was also offered with sporty, elegant special bodies by various bodywork companies.
