The Alfa Romeo 40-60 HP , previously ALFA 40-60 HP , was a passenger car from Alfa Romeo , previously from the Società Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili.

description

The company launched this luxury model in 1913 as their largest model. The designer was Giuseppe Merosi . A four-cylinder in - line engine with 110 mm bore , 160 mm stroke and 6082 cm³ displacement developed 51.5 kW (70  hp ). It was mounted in the front of the vehicle and drove the rear axle. The transmission had four gears. The wheelbase was 320 cm and the track width was 145 cm. There was a choice of four-seater touring cars . The curb weight was given as 1250 kg. The top speed was 125 km / h. The chassis cost 15,500 lire .

In addition, a few examples of an open, two-seater racing version were created. The engine here initially developed 53.7 kW (73 hp) and from 1920 on 60.3 kW (82 hp). The wheelbase was shortened to 295 cm. The curb weight was only 1100 kg. The maximum speed was given as 150 km / h.

In 1914, Marco Ricotti commissioned an aerodynamically shaped limousine called Aerodinamica , manufactured by Carrozzeria Castagna . The vehicle reached 139 km / h. In addition to the restricted view, the volume and heat of the engine located inside the body proved to be disadvantageous. After a few months, the body was converted into an open touring car. A replica of the limousine is in the Museo storico Alfa Romeo in Arese .

On November 23, 1919, the brand name changed from ALFA to Alfa Romeo .

Production ended in 1922. The successor was the G1 with a six-cylinder engine .

27 vehicles were built between 1913 and 1915. Figures for the period after 1915 are not available.

Races

On November 23, 1919 , the drivers Giuseppe Campari , Nino Franchini and Antonio Fracassi took part in the Targa Florio , but did not reach the goal.
