The Alfa Romeo 4C (internal designation type 960 ) is a sports car from the Italian automobile brand Alfa Romeo .

history

The 4C was presented as a design study at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011 . The non-roadworthy exhibit was designed and manufactured by Vercarmodel Saro , the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo is named as the designer on the lettering . The first prototype was seen in Turin in October 2012 and the door handles were no longer integrated into the side air intakes.

In March 2013, Alfa Romeo showed the production version of the 4C at the Geneva Motor Show. The most noticeable difference to the study are the changed headlights.

The first series copies of a Launch Edition for the market launch were ordered at the trade fair in Geneva and delivered to Balocco in Europe at the end of October 2013 . The vehicle is hand- assembled by Maserati in Modena . Like that of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, its name is derived from the tradition of the Alfa Romeo 6C and 8C , where the C stands for Cilindri (Italian for "cylinder"), so the designation 4C means " four-cylinder ".

As part of the Detroit Motor Show (NAIAS) in January 2015, Alfa Romeo presented the production version of the convertible version of the 4C, which is also known as the Targa roof variant and was first shown as a near-series concept vehicle at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The 4C Spider weighs around 10 kilograms more than the Coupé, which weighs 895 kilograms, nothing has been changed in the drive concept. In the summer of 2015, the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider came onto the market in Germany.

In the American market, sales of the coupé variant, with which Alfa Romeo began the return to the market in sales of new cars, ceased at the end of the 2018 model year. Official sales of the 4C in Central Europe ended in August 2018 with the introduction of new emissions regulations. Production for the world market ended in autumn 2019.
