The Alfa Romeo Giulietta (Type 940) is a compact class vehicle from the Italian automobile brand Alfa Romeo , which has been marketed in Germany since June 19, 2010. The type designation "Giulietta" has been used several times by Alfa Romeo over the years.

Model history

After the name Alfa Romeo Milano had previously been speculated for the successor to the Alfa Romeo 147 , Alfa Romeo finally gave the model the name Alfa Romeo Giulietta (German "Julchen"), under which vehicles in the 1950s ( Alfa Romeo Giulietta (type 750/101) ) and 1970s ( Alfa Romeo Giulietta (Type 116) ) years were offered, but at that time in the middle class . While the manufacturer's first press releases on the vehicle used the name as a masculine , the gender later changed to the feminine around 2012 .

The car was officially presented at the Geneva Motor Show (March 4-14, 2010). The Giulietta is the first Alfa Romeo model to be offered exclusively with turbo-charged engines.

A slight facelift for the vehicle was presented at the IAA 2013 and 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show. Since March 15, 2016, the revised version can be ordered at prices starting at € 21,190.

production

The Giulietta has been built at the FCA Cassino plant in Piedimonte San Germano since 2010 . Over 210,000 vehicles were produced between 2010 and 2014.

The exterior of the vehicle was designed by Alessandro Maccolini . In contrast to its predecessor, the rear door handles of the vehicle, which is always five-door, are black and fitted behind the side windows, so that the car looks two-door at first glance.

At the IAA 2013 the Giulietta was presented in a slightly revised form. So it went on sale in October of this year. Features of this facelift are a subtle facelift with modified radiator grille and front bumper, the now chrome-rimmed fog lights and other details such as new wheels, exterior colors and seat covers.

Another facelift was presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2016. This includes subtle revisions to the front and rear as well as within the equipment variants. The grill now resembles that of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and the Giulietta lettering on the tailgate moved from the center to the right, whereby the font was changed and thus aligned with the new corporate identity , which was also introduced with the Giulia. In addition, the vehicle is now embossed with the new Alfa Romeo brand logo.

There were only a few visual changes with the 2019 model year: a new body color with the name Verde Visconti Metallic , new wheel designs and changed color accents in the interior and the trim on the exterior.

Equipment variants

The equipment lines of the Alfa Giulietta in Germany include the basic model (from 2013 to 2016 Impression ), Turismo and Super , which could be combined with two sports packages, as well as the sportiest model Quadrifoglio-Verde .

The standard equipment of the basic model ( called Progression in Austria and Switzerland ) includes six airbags, a dynamically adjustable chassis, various electronic helpers ( Electronic Stability Program (VDC), ABS, Hill-Holder), air conditioning and two useful features Driving in an environmentally friendly way: on the one hand a start-stop system and on the other hand a switching point display. Steel wheels and crank windows in the rear doors are also standard.

The Turismo ( called Distinctive in Austria and Switzerland ) is better equipped . In addition, two-zone automatic air conditioning, audio system, leather steering wheel and leather gear knob, cruise control, a multifunction display and a center console in magnesium gray are on board. There are fabric seats in two colors. Outside there are chrome window frames, fog lights and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The Super variant builds on the Turismo equipment with 17-inch light-alloy wheels and exterior mirror housings in aluminum gloss .

When sports package 1 sports suspension, 17-inch light alloy wheels, sport pedals, side, outside mirror in matt aluminum, leather steering wheel and knob with red seams and seats in combination leather / fabric / microfiber (optional full leather) to be installed.

The Sport Package 2 differs from the sports package 1 by 18-inch alloy wheels, stainless steel door sills as well as exclusive leather seats with red stitching.

At the top of the equipment lines is the Quadrifoglio Verde . This is only available with the 1.8 l engine with direct petrol injection (TBi) with a maximum output of 173 kW (235 hp). In addition to the features of the two sports packages, the Quadrifoglio Verde comes as standard with a Brembo brake system, sports suspension with a lowered body and multifunction buttons on the steering wheel.

The individual variants can be supplemented with a large number of other special equipment components.

The additional equipment Super Package has been available since May 2012 . This includes 17-inch light-alloy wheels, painted side skirts, darkened side and rear windows, darker interior, stainless steel door sills, headlight frames and exterior mirror housings in aluminum gloss, as well as dashboard inserts made of dark, brushed aluminum. The package can be ordered for all Turismo versions. Instead, the previous equipment version Super was removed from the range, which could be combined with the 1.4-l turbo gasoline engine (TB) with 88 kW (120 PS) maximum output.

The QV Sportiva equipment package was introduced in July 2012 and is available for the Turismo versions. It replaces the super package and is optically based on the top model Quadrifoglio Verde .

In January 2013, the equipment range in Germany was expanded to include the Veloce version . In contrast to the predecessor Alfa Romeo 147 , in which this equipment line was only available for the most powerful series engines at the time of introduction, here it is based on the standard Giulietta equipment . Veloce includes other exterior mirror housings, chrome door handles and 17-inch alloy wheels, among other things.

A new, luxurious equipment variant has been available in Austria and Switzerland since the 2013 facelift, the Exclusive : in addition to the Distinctive, this includes special partial leather seats with electric lumbar support, 17-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors and folding exterior mirrors. In Germany the basic model got the name Impression .

Furthermore, from the 2016 facelift, the vehicle was only offered in the equipment variants Giulietta , Giulietta Super and Giulietta Veloce .

The B-TECH equipment line is also new , while the top version Veloce can now only be combined with the more powerful diesel engine.

Collezione special model

As of February 2013, the Collezione edition model, which was limited to just 100 pieces, was available from dealers . Each copy is provided with a special production number badge. The special model is based on the Turismo model variant , but offers many of the components reserved for the special model. The interior has been upgraded with a new two-tone leather seat cover, Bluetooth hands-free system and a TomTom navigation device, among other things . Specially painted 17-inch alloy wheels and headlight frames in aluminum gloss characterize the exterior of the model.

technology

The vehicle is 13 cm longer than the 147 and 15 cm longer than the VW Golf VI , the best-selling car model in this class in Germany. For the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the C-Evo platform developed from the Fiat C platform was used, which was slightly enlarged (initially as D-Evo, currently as CUSW ) for other models in the group, such as the Dodge Dart (2013 ) , the Fiat Viaggio / Ottimo and the Chrysler 200 . Around 90% of the total mass of the vehicle is made up of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels, which, according to the manufacturer, improves the rigidity of the body structure compared to its predecessor and, at the same time, should not increase the vehicle mass. The chassis has MacPherson struts at the front and a central link axle at the rear.

Engines

The Giulietta was at times available with seven different turbocharged engine variants. All engines have four valves per cylinder. The offer includes three 1.4-l turbo gasoline engines with maximum outputs of 77 kW (105 PS, not available in Switzerland, now completely discontinued), 88 kW (120 PS) and 125 kW (170 PS) 1.8-liter turbo gasoline engine with a maximum of 173 kW (235 PS) and three turbo diesel engines with 1.6 liters and a maximum output of 77 kW (105 PS), 2.0 liters with a maximum of 103 kW (140 PS) and 125 kW (170 PS). The 1.4-liter turbo gasoline engine with a maximum output of 125 kW (170 hp) is implemented in the Multiair valve control, which celebrated its debut in the Alfa Romeo Mito "Quadrifoglio-Verde". This technology increases the efficiency of the engine, which is why fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions could be reduced. A start-stop system is standard on all models except for the Quadrifoglio-Verde. This is with the above. 1.8-liter turbo gasoline engine the most powerful model in the series.

Since the end of April 2011, the double clutch transmission TCT (Twin Clutch Transmission) has been available for the 1.4 l petrol engine with MultiAir valve control and the 2.0 l diesel engine (JTDM) . The surcharge is 1800 euros.

At the same time, with the 2013 facelift, a revised 2.0-l diesel engine (JTDM) was introduced, the maximum output of which has been increased to 110 kW (150 PS).

During the 2013 model year, work began on gradually revising the engine range so that all gasoline engines meet the Euro 6 standard. Only vehicles of this type have been delivered since the beginning of 2014.

The petrol engine with the maximum output of 77 kW (105 PS) was omitted with the 2016 facelift, making the petrol engine with a maximum of 88 kW (120 PS) the base engine again.

The entire engine range has been compliant with the Euro 6d-TEMP emission standard that is now in force since the 2019 model year , although the range has been limited to three engine versions. A 1.4-liter turbo gasoline engine with a maximum output of 88 kW (120 PS) and two diesel engines with a displacement of 1.6 liters and a maximum of 88 kW (120 PS) or 2.0 liters and a maximum of 125 kW are also available (170 hp).

infotainment

From the facelift in 2013, the Infotainment system was offered uconnect and since the facelift in 2016, the system Uconnect LIVE, 5.0 "and 6.5" measured with an in diagonal touch-sensitive screen used.

safety

The vehicle was at the Euro-NCAP - Crash Test (total) in 2010, with five stars. In another test in 2017, it received an overall rating of three stars with the standard safety equipment.
