development

Kamal

Alfa Romeo presented the Kamal as a near-series concept vehicle of an SUV at the Geneva Motor Show based on the 159 and the Brera (GM-Fiat premium platform) in 2003, but did not pursue the development any further.

The German engineer and Alfa Romeo boss Harald J. Wester published a concept paper for the Alfa Romeo brand in May 2014 in which he showed a planned model offensive for the following years. This also included two SUVs.

Like the Alfa Romeo Giulia , the Stelvio is based on the Giorgio platform and is built at the Cassino plant.

marketing

Alfa Romeo officially presented the Stelvio to the public for the first time at the LA Auto Show on November 16, 2016. The name of the vehicle refers to the Stilfser Joch ( Italian Passo dello Stelvio ), the highest mountain pass in Italy.

The Stelvio has been available to order in Germany since January 18, 2017, but was initially only available as a First Edition special model at prices from 56,000 euros. This only includes from Alfa Romeo Giulia known 206 kW (280 hp) two-liter gasoline engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive . The special model also includes bi-xenon headlights, leather upholstery and a reversing camera.
