The Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ was presented as a roadworthy racing car at the Turin Motor Show in 1962 . It was built by Zagato , hence the "Z" in the name, while the "T" stands for Tubolare (tubular frame).

The Giulia's 1.6-liter engine develops 112 hp. Together with an empty weight of only 660 kg, made possible by a tubular space frame , this has a positive effect on driving performance. A total of 102 units were built between 1963 and 1965. In motorsport there were good placements, if not the best. In addition, technical failures often occurred.

The successor was therefore the much more successful Alfa Romeo TZ2 in 1964 . The power was increased to 165 hp and the weight was further reduced to 620 kg. The chassis has also been improved. In the meantime, Autodelta was responsible for motorsport at Alfa Romeo. The newly developed Giulia GTA achieved better results in touring car racing . This then led to the decision to concentrate entirely on the GTA and to discontinue production of the TZ2 in 1967 after only twelve copies.

In 2010, for the 100th anniversary of Alfa Romeo, the Alfa Romeo TZ3 design study followed , which was first produced as a single piece Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa and in 2011 in the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale variant as a small series of 9 pieces.
