The Alfa Romeo 1750 Berlina is a sedan from the car manufacturer Alfa Romeo that came onto the market in early 1968 and is based on the smaller Alfa Romeo Giulia .

After production of the Alfa Romeo 2600 Berlina ended in autumn 1969 , the 1750 Berlina was Alfa Romeo's largest sedan. In the spring of 1972, the Alfa Romeo Alfetta, a car of about the same size, appeared, and both were offered in parallel for four years.

Their body was designed by Bertone . The resemblance to the successful Giulia was unmistakable. With the wheelbase extended by 60 mm and the longer overhangs, the vehicle became more spacious. The somewhat smoother shape and the design of the dashboard followed the taste of the times.

Alfa Romeo offered the engine with 1779 cm³ displacement as a supplement to the two four-cylinder engines with 1.3 and 1.6 l displacement in other models as early as 1967. The designation "1750" after the unusually rounded cubic capacity should be reminiscent of the famous pre-war six-cylinder 6C 1750 . The maximum engine output in the basic version was 83 kW (113 DIN PS) at 5500 rpm. In later models such as the Alfetta, the same engine was referred to as the "1.8 liter".

The engine was offered under the designation "1750" in the following vehicles:

Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina (1971-1977)
  • in the two-door open Alfa Romeo 1750 Spider , with the vehicle otherwise unchanged.
  • in the two-door Coupé Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce , in which the radiator section and the arrangement of the headlights differed from the predecessor, the Giulia Sprint GT.

From the summer of 1971, the 1750 Berlina was replaced in all three models by the 2000 Berlina . The cubic capacities changed accordingly. In the basic version, the engine developed 97 kW (132 hp). For the US market, the 2.0-liter engine received a Spica injection instead of the twin carburettors.

Facelift

The 1750 can be divided into two series:

In vehicles of the first series from the beginning of 1968 to the spring of 1970, the indicator / parking light combination sits on the front bumpers, and the outer main headlights have a slightly larger diameter than the inner ones. In the second series (from spring 1970) the indicator / parking light combination is attached below the outer main headlight. Another important feature are now hanging instead of standing pedals and a modified braking system.

Only the 2000 Berlina had four headlights of the same size, a wider Scudetto and completely modified fittings.

The 2000 Berlina was built until spring 1977. The number of pieces of 1750 and 2000 amounted to 191,723 copies.
