Alfa Romeo RL / RM
Alfa Romeo RL and Alfa Romeo RM are automobiles that Alfa Romeo manufactured in the 1920s.
The RL with six-cylinder engine presented in 1922 , from which the RM with four-cylinder engine was derived, helped the company to break through in racing in 1923 with a double victory by Ugo Sivocci and Antonio Ascari in the Targa Florio long-distance race.
The in- line engine designed by Giuseppe Merosi has a side-mounted camshaft that operates the overhead valves via push rods and rocker arms . In the basic embodiments of the six-cylinder engine was 2916 cc and provided 41 kW (56 horsepower ) at 3200 min -1 , the four-cylinder had 1944 cc, yielding 29 kW (39 hp) at 3000 min -1 . Both the RL and the RM had variants with higher performance. The RL Super Sport 1925 made, for example, 61 kW (83 hp) at 3600 min -1 , which made him 130 km / h fast. The racing version of the RL for the Targa Florio from 1923 reached a speed of 157 km / h with a displacement of 3,154 cm³; In 1924, some models ran at 3620 cm³ (crankshafts with seven bearings) and 92 kW (125 PS) up to around 180 km / h.
Production of the RM began in 1923 and ended in 1925; a total of 500 pieces were produced. The RL was built until 1927 and had a number of 2,640 vehicles. Its successor was the Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 .
