Victor Öhling Norberg (born May 22, 1990 in Tännäs, Härjedalen ) is a Swedish freestyle skier and Olympian (2014). He specializes in the discipline of ski cross . His greatest successes to date are winning the World Cup discipline ranking in the 2013/14 season and the 2017 world championship title.
At the beginning of his sports career, Norberg was an alpine ski racer . From December 2006 he took part in FIS races and national junior races, mainly in the disciplines of giant slalom and slalom . He achieved no notable successes, with the exception of a victory at an FIS giant slalom in Tärnaby in November 2008. At the end of the 2009/10 season, he switched to the freestyle discipline of ski cross and has only sporadically competed in alpine ski races since then.
Norberg made his debut in the Freestyle World Cup on December 18, 2010 in San Candido , where he finished 22nd and immediately won his first World Cup points. This was also synonymous with the best result in its debut season. In the course of the 2011/12 season he was only able to classify himself once in the points, which is why he was increasingly used in the European Cup. Norberg's breakthrough to the top of the world came in the winter of 2012/13 . With third place in San Candido, he achieved his first World Cup podium on December 23, 2012. After another third place in Grasgehren , he won the Olympic dress rehearsal on February 19, 2013 in Sochi . The 2013 World Championships in Voss were disappointing , where he was eliminated in qualifying due to a fall.
In the 2013/14 season , Norberg stood on the podium of a World Cup four times, one of them as a winner (in Åre ). In the discipline classification, he dueled with the Austrian Andreas Matt and ultimately prevailed against him by just twelve points. He finished ninth at the 2014 Winter Olympics . In the winter of 2014/15 he won two World Cup races in Arosa and another in Åre. There were also two podium places, which was enough for second place in the discipline ranking. He won the bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships at Kreischberg .
In the 2015/16 World Cup , Norberg won two races in Innichen and Idre . Together with a second place, this resulted in fourth place in the discipline ranking. His performances in the 2016/17 World Cup were quite inconsistent with classifications between 3rd and 25th place. At the end of the season he won the gold medal at the 2017 World Championships in the Sierra Nevada .
