Idre is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Dalarnas län and the historical province of Dalarna . He is after the main town Älvdalen the second largest town in the municipality of Älvdalen . If you follow Reichsstraße 70, which runs through the village, about 30 kilometers to the west, you will reach the Norwegian border.
Idre is best known for its winter sports, with the largest facility in the Idre Fjäll area. Regular races here the Biathlon - IBU Cup instead. In the summer months the place is used as a starting point for hikes. The Sami breed reindeer in the nearby fell area ; the Sami village of Idre sameby is the southernmost Sameby in Sweden.
The Idre flygplats airport, located right next to the town , was used from 1994 to 1999 as a regional airport with connections to Stockholm / Arlanda airport. After the sale by the municipality, regular flight operations have ceased.
Winter sports
Idre is a famous winter sports resort with significant facilities in the mountains surrounding the municipality. The largest of these is Idre Fjäll. Idre is Sweden's fourth largest winter sports resort after Åre, Sälen and Vemdalen.
