Idre is a funeral doom and post metal band founded in 2012 .

history

The band was formed in 2012 in Oklahoma City . 2014, the band released their self-titled debut album from Atlee Hickerson produced in the Dust House Studio in Oklahoma City and Brad Boatright at Audio victories in Portland, OR, mastered was. The album was self-published but was distributed by Consouling Sounds in Europe and Crucial Blast in the United States. Despite self-publishing, various webzines responded with praise to Idre . Cheryl wrote for Bleak Metal that Idre "[is] a monumental record and Idre [...] a band to watch out for". Similarly, Childeric Thor wrote for Musicwaves.fr that the band was "a great discovery between post-metal and experimental rock". In further discussions, the album was praised as particularly "individual and intimate", "majestic", "spacious" and "very promising".

Following their debut release, the band toured the southern states until 2016 , three smaller tours in Oklahoma and participated in several compilations. Together with sound engineer Steve Boaz, the band recorded the second studio album Unforgiving Landscapes in the Breathing Rhythm Studio in 2016 . The album was mixed by Atlee Hickerson at Studio Dust House and mastered by Chris Harris at Hook Echo Sound in Seattle. Unforgiving Landscapes was released by Wolves And Vibrancy Records and Breathe Plastic Records in May 2017 and was widely recognized as an outstanding release. Dante DuVall described the album for Doom-Metal.com as a “climax of sad music” that “simply has to be heard”. The album is also described as “a hypnotic journey through the mercilessly darkest landscapes” and “meditative”. It is "flawless" and transports the "immeasurable weight of loneliness." The band is recorded as particularly independent, without any clear genre allocation. Cody Davis describes the music for Metal Injection as "a dark but ethereal mixture" in the spectrum of Doom Metal .

style

The music of Idre is described as "extremely dark post metal, in which the atmosphere is clearly the focus" as well as the webzine Doom-Metal.com , the music of Idre is an atmospheric mixture of post-metal and funeral doom with further influences from shoegazing , post-rock and drone doom . The pieces followed "a dreamy, mantra-like [structure] that was reinforced by the clear male vocals". For a classifying comparison see Neurosis , Om , Godspeed You! Black Emperor , King Woman and Fvnerals . Despite such cross-references, Idre's style is "completely original and difficult to categorize". In his Funeral Friday column, written for the webzine Metal Injection, Cody Davis describes the music as corresponding to Funeral Doom on an atmospheric level. Here the band musically present a genre-independent atmospheric Doom Metal that draws on elements from folk music and Gothic rock .

"Droning, single-note riffs carry a touch of a twang. The rhythm section burrows beneath the dirt with a booming drill of drums and bass. Airy vocals drift and sway throughout the mix. It all coalesces in a gloomy yet ethereal blend of doom. "

“Roaring one-note riffs exude a touch of twang . The rhythm section digs itself into the dirt with a hammering march of drums and bass. Airy vocals float and swim through this mixture and all of this merges into a dark but ethereal form of Doom Metal. "
