Location of the municipality of Obermaiselstein in the Oberallgäu district | ||
Obermaiselstein is a municipality in the Swabian district of Oberallgäu . The place is a member of the Hörnergruppe administrative association based in Fischen im Allgäu and a member of the German-Austrian joint project Naturpark Nagelfluhkette .
geography
location
The main town, Obermaiselstein, is 849 m above sea level (church square). The highest elevations are the Riedberger Horn at 1780 meters and the Besler at 1680 meters. The deepest points are in the valley wood and on the Riedbach below the Lochleite . About 60 percent of the municipality's 2500 hectares are used for alpine or forestry purposes. The Schwarzenberg runs through the middle of the Alpine region , at the south-western end of which the Besler and Schafkopf form the end.
Two high valleys north and south of this mountain range shape the community. Both valleys, the Gutswieser valley in the south and the Schönberger-Ach valley in the north, rise from east to west and slope down towards the Balderschwanger valley on the western side. In both cases, the apexes are about 1359 m high and form the watershed between the Rhine and the Danube.
Waters
The Schönberger Ach, which rises at the upper Hörnle and flows into the Iller at Weiler, should be mentioned on watercourses to the east. When it rains heavily, the stream often floods and has already wreaked havoc. The Lochbach rises in the area of the Freiburger and Simons Alpe. After forming some beautiful, little-known glacier pots, it turns south in the Lochwiesen , flows through Tiefenbach and flows into the Breitach, which comes from the Walsertal, and thus into the Iller at the Weidach .
The Fallenbach , whose floods gather on the rugged plateau of the Schwarzenberg when the rain continues, offers an impressive spectacle . It then fills the Sturmannshöhle with its rustling sound and finally falls in a mighty arc out of the rock face. In the Rieder Wiesen it meets the Riedbach , which comes from the Hirschsprung, digs through the Lochleite and appears in Langenwang as the Rotfisch (also called Grundbach ) in the Illertal. His abundance of fish gave rise to the name Fiskendung , later Fischen . This body of water also flows into the Iller near Weiler.
The Goldbach flows down from the Haubenegg district and winds its way south past Obermaiselstein and then flows into the Riedbach . It is said that the use of this body of water was particularly likely to have served the flax treatment, so that the brook was given the nickname 'gold'.
The Hörnleach flows to the west , which unites on the Anger with the Achbach from the Alpe Dinijörgen and the Scheuenbach. From here it is called Bolgenach and flows towards Lake Constance. In the past, this water was often used for drifting wood.
Parish parts
Obermaiselstein has 4 officially named municipal parts (the type of settlement is indicated in brackets ):
- Niederdorf ( village )
- Oberdorf (village)
- Obermaiselstein ( parish village )
- Ried (village)
There is also the deserted Haubenegg, which is now part of the Obermaiselstein municipality.
Ried was probably founded in the Lochbachtal in the 17th century by farmers who came from the Lechtal via the Alps. Back then, the farmers drove their cattle out of the Lochbachtal over the summer. Around 1700 the whole village moved to its current location. For this purpose, the houses in the Lochbachtal were dismantled one after the other and rebuilt at the new location. After the move, the cattle were driven into the Lochbachtal over the summer to use the mountain meadows there.
history
The name of the community was officially changed from Maiselstein to Obermaiselstein in 1865 .
Between 1988 and 2018, the community grew from 824 to 970 by 146 inhabitants or 17.7%.
