Oy-Mittelberg is a municipality in the Swabian district of Oberallgäu in Bavaria in Germany .

Geographical location
The municipality consists of the districts Mittelberg and Petersthal. With a height of 1035 m above sea level. NHN Mittelberg is the highest district of the municipality and one of the highest in Germany.

history
Until the 19th century
Mittelberg is first mentioned in a document around the year 800 as the place of the Tenth Wertach. The area of Oy-Mittelberg belonged to the Hochstift Augsburg until the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss and the secularization of 1803 , since then the place belongs to Bavaria. In 1822 Mittelberg fell victim to a major fire, with the exception of the church and rectory.
Oy has been part of the Mittelberg community since the 19th century.
Incorporations
On January 1, 1976, as part of the municipal reform, the former municipality of Petersthal was almost completely incorporated into the municipality of Mittelberg. On May 1, 1978, there was an exchange of territory between the community of Mittelberg and the market in Sulzberg. Since January 1st, 1980 the community has been called Oy-Mittelberg.
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018, the municipality grew from 3,632 to 4,715 by 1,083 inhabitants or 29.8%.

mayor
Mayor is Theo Haslach (CSU). In the mayoral election on November 27, 2005, he received almost 62% of the vote, in 2011 without an opposing candidate even 93.9%. In 2017, Haslach was confirmed in office with just under 50.5% of the votes. His predecessor was Wolfgang Hützler (Free Voters), who was in office for 18 years.

In 2009 the municipal tax revenue was € 2,674,000, of which € 339,000 was business tax revenue (net).

Churches:
- Pilgrimage Church of the Holy Cross , Maria Rain . - The furnishings include a Gothic high altar , an early Baroque pulpit and the miraculous image from around 1490.
- Parish Church of St. Michael , Mittelberg. At 1036 m above sea level NHN it is one of the highest parish churches in the Allgäu. The origins go back to the 8th century . After a renovation and extension in 1769, it takes on a baroque appearance. With the largest cycle of frescoes by the Allgäu artist Franz Anton Weiß , a late Gothic Pieta, a Baroque Michael and a baroque pulpit. Michael's bell from 1522. Tower from the 12th century . - Parish Church of St. Peter and Paul , Petersthal. - The late baroque village church is furnished with a palm donkey and a Madonna figure from the Syrlin school (around 1510).

Economy and Infrastructure
economy
In 2009 there were four in the field of agriculture and forestry, 303 in the manufacturing sector and 144 in trade, transport and hospitality at the place of work. In other economic sectors, 345 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were a total of 1,477 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. In 2009 there were two companies in the manufacturing sector and seven in the construction sector. In 2007 there were also 141 farms with an arable area of more than two hectares , which farmed a total of 3253 hectares.
tourism
Tourism contributed significantly to the development of the municipality in its present form. Important prerequisites for tourism are the numerous lakes such as Rottachsee and Grüntensee, as well as the many parts of the town, such as Mittelberg, that have been preserved in their original state. Since 2007 the high ropes course “Kletterwald Grüntensee” has been located in the Haslach district .

- In 2010, 131 children were cared for in two church and one communal kindergartens with a total of 175 places.
