Hans Johnen (born February 26, 1940 in Oy-Mittelberg ; † March 14, 2013 in Dresden ) was a German mathematician and professor at Bielefeld University . Johnen was known for his research results in the field of analysis ; here in the special field of research on compact homogeneous spaces , so-called Lies groups .

academic career

From 1960 to 1966 he studied mathematics, physics, education and philosophy at RWTH Aachen . After that, he was an assistant at the Department of Paul Butzer at RWTH Aachen. At the latter's chair he completed his doctorate on continuity modules and approximation theory on compact Lie groups in 1970 to obtain a doctorate in mathematics. After completing his habilitation , Hans Johnen became professor of mathematics at Bielefeld University in 1974 . Hans Johnen worked with Horst Leptin in the Topological Groups Working Group . This researched in particular in the field of classical harmonic analysis and algebraically oriented questions about the (ideal) structure of convolutionalgebras on Lies groups. He stayed at Bielefeld University until his retirement.
