from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stadiasmus Patarensis , also Stadiasmus Provinciae Lyciae or Miliarium Lyciae , is a Roman milestone found in 1993 from the city of Patara in Lycia .

The stadiasmus (from Greek  σταδιασμός , German: " stadium knife"; the stadium referred to a distance of approx. 180 to 200 meters as the length measure) had the shape of a pillar and served as a monumental itinerary . It is inscribed in Greek with a dedication to Claudius and an official listing of the roads built by the legate Quintus Veranius in the province of Lycia .
