politics

mayor

In 2008 Monika Zeller became mayor. In 2014 she was re-elected. She was the first mayor in the Oberallgäu district. The Bavarian State Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation against her in April 2017 because she suspected that Zeller was close to the Reich Citizens' Movement and thus declared the foundation and continued existence of the Federal Republic of Germany and the validity of the Basic Law and the Constitution of the Free State of Bavaria null and void.

According to information from the BR , Zeller applied for a “citizenship card” and in 2016 attended an event organized by “Reich Citizen” Markus Hailer in the hall of the local council with numerous local councilors. There confused theses about a “sovereign community” and the probable loss of property without “citizenship cards” were put forward. After it became known, around 70 citizens demonstrated against Mayor Monika Zeller and the municipal councils who had applied for citizenship cards. On June 19, 2018, the mayor was suspended by the Bavarian State Prosecutor and a disciplinary action was taken. The Munich Administrative Court lifted the suspension on January 23, 2019. On February 1, 2019, Zeller announced her immediate resignation.

In the new election on May 26, 2019, Rolf Walter was elected mayor with 93% of the votes cast.

Municipal council

In the election on March 15, 2020 , only the nomination of the Free Voting Community with 18 applicants was available. The twelve candidates with the most votes received the seats.
