Mining

In the late Middle Ages , ore was mined from the mineralized Nummulite limestone near Burgberg, at the foot of the Grünten , which was smelted in nearby Sonthofen and Hindelang . To commemorate this, the “Erzgruben Erlebniswelt am Grünten” was opened on July 16, 2006. Because of the ore extraction, large parts of the Burgberg Forest were cut down. He was reforested and today consists of a coniferous forest - monoculture that for bark beetles is vulnerable.
