Ostrach (Iller)
The Ostrach is an approximately 20 kilometer long tributary of the Iller in Bavaria in the Allgäu Alps .
course
It is being built in the administrative district of Swabia in the Oberallgäu district near the gable house , seven kilometers south of Hinterstein , from the union of Obertalbach and Bärgündlebach . In quick succession it flows through two gorges , the Eisenbreche and the Aueleswand , before reaching Hinterstein. The Bsonderach flows above Bruck and drains the Retterschwanger valley . For more than 500 years, it has been driving the water wheels of the old hammer mills near Bad Oberdorf , where thousands of spears and halberds were forged for the armies of Emperor Maximilian in the Middle Ages. It flows through the municipality of Bad Hindelang in the Ostrach valley named after it. Directly north of Sonthofen , shortly after the confluence of the Starzlach , it flows into the Iller.
Hinterstein landslide
On May 6, 1966 , parts of the eastern slope of the Breitenberg slid over a length of 400 m into the Ostrach valley. The debris slid into the Ostrach creek bed and threatened to spill it or to dam the river. With the help of the local construction companies and bulldozers of the Bundeswehr , a barn and the Guferbrücke were demolished and an alternative bed was leveled for the Ostrach the following day in order to prevent uncontrolled build-up and flooding.
