Wildpoldsried is a municipality in the Swabian district of Oberallgäu . The small community became known nationwide and internationally as an energy village , which uses renewable energies to generate around eight times as much electricity as it consumes itself. The community has been honored many times with German (e.g. German Solar Prize 2009, Bavarian State Medal for Services to the Environment 2011) and international prizes for this achievement . In 2018, the community received the European Energy Award in gold for the second time , this time with the highest number of points in Europe. In 2019 the community was awarded the title of Bavarian Home Village.

Wildpoldsried is located in the Upper Allgäu in the Leubas basin. The Allgäu cycle path runs through the village .

history
Wildpoldsried was first mentioned in a document in 1392 (through the sale of Wolkenberg Castle ) and before 1800 it was the seat of an upper and lower court of the prince monastery of Kempten . Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss and the secularization in 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
Between 1988 and 2018, the municipality grew from 1964 to 2602 by 638 inhabitants or 32.5%.

Municipal council
In the election on March 15, 2020 , the joint nomination of the CSU / Free Citizens received 50.62% of the vote and the Free Voters 49.38%. Both groups are represented by seven councils each, including twelve men and two women.
mayor
Renate Deniffel (CSU / Free Citizens / FW) has been the town's mayor since May 1, 2020. It was elected on March 15, 2020 with 91% of the vote. Her predecessor was Arno Zengerle (CSU / Free Citizens / Free Voters), who was in office from May 1, 1996 to April 30, 2020.
Community finances
In 2010, the municipal tax revenue amounted to 1,522,000 euros, of which 312,000 euros were trade tax revenues (net).

Economy and Infrastructure
economy
In 2010 there were 63 employees in the field of agriculture and forestry, 46 in the manufacturing sector and 80 in the field of trade and transport. In other economic sectors, 152 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were a total of 829 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There was no company in the manufacturing sector and three companies in the main construction sector. In addition, there were 59 farms, cultivated an area of 1529 ha. Of this, 4 ha were arable land and 1,491 ha were permanent green space.
The power storage manufacturer Sonnen GmbH is based in Wildpoldsried. In February 2019, the acquisition of Sonnen by the British-Dutch energy company Royal Dutch Shell became known.

Wildpoldsried energy village
Around 24 million euros have been invested in the ecological renovation of the community since the mid-1990s. Nine wind turbines were built, 26,400 square meters of photovoltaic systems were installed and a biogas plant was built to provide heat for households. The village produces around five times as much electricity as it consumes. In 2012 two more wind turbines were put into operation. The weekly newspaper Die Zeit named in 2012 the figure of 30 million euros that the citizens of Wildpoldsried had invested in renewable energy so far.
Grid integration
The village works with the Allgäu overland works , Siemens , the Kempten University of Applied Sciences and the RWTH Aachen University to optimize the feed-in of the electricity generated, which fluctuates sharply depending on the wind and sun conditions . The “Irene or IREN2” pilot project for the integration of regenerative energy and electromobility has been running since April 2011 .
education
In 2011 there were the following institutions in the education sector:
- A kindergarten with 100 kindergarten places, in which 100 children were looked after by eleven teachers
- An elementary school in which 104 pupils were taught by six teachers (school year 2010/11)
