Alfons Zeller (born April 19, 1945 in Houses near Burgberg ) is a Swabian politician of the CSU . From 1978 to 2008 he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament .

After primary school , Zeller attended the agricultural vocational school in Immenstadt , which he graduated with honors, in addition to working on his parents' farm . Zeller later completed an apprenticeship as a banker at the Raiffeisen-Zentralbank in Kempten from 1962 to 1965 and was then a bank clerk. From 1968 to 1978 he was head of the Burgberg branch of Raiffeisenbank Oberstdorf - Sonthofen . From 1971 onwards he attended evening and weekend lectures at the Administration and Business Academy in Kempten, where he graduated in 1974 with a degree in business administration (VWA) .

Political party

Alfons Zeller joined the CSU in 1968. From 1970 to 1980 he was the district chairman of the Junge Union Oberallgäu. From 1980 to 1989, he was first district chairman of the CSU in Oberallgäu, and has been its district chairman in Swabia since 1989 . He has been a member of the state executive since 1989 and a member of the party's presidium since 1999.

Local politics

Zeller was a local councilor from 1972 to 1996 , and from 1972 to 1987 deputy mayor of his home town of Burgberg in Oberallgäu . Since 1978 he has been a member of the Oberallgäu district council .

State politics

He became a member of the state parliament on October 28, 1978 and was a member of it until September 2008. He was elected for the then Sonthofen constituency , since 2003 constituency of Swabia . From 1978 to 1986 he was a member of the state parliament's “Economy and Transport” committee, and from 1986/87 he was a member of the finance committee.

From 1987 to 1993 Zeller was State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs and Transport, and from 1993 to 1998 also State Secretary in the Free State's Ministry of Finance. He was a member and deputy chairman of the working group in the parliamentary committee for federal and European affairs, which he chaired from 1998 to 2003.

He was no longer eligible for the 2008 state elections.

Federal politics

From 1994 to 1999 Zeller was a member of the tenth and from 2004 to 2009 of the twelfth Federal Assembly .

Other offices, awards and private matters

Zeller has been chairman of the "Tourismusverband Allgäu - Bavarian Swabia" since 1996, supervisory board of "Bayerische Tourismus-Marketing GmbH", and since 1992 president of the "Bavarian working group for mountain farmers". He is also a member of the board of directors of the “Soziale Wirtschaftswerk Oberallgäu” (a housing association) and chairman of the “Kulturbrücke Schwaben eV”. He is also the first chairman of the “Kulturgemeinschaft Oberallgäu”.

He has already been honored with the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon , the Bavarian Order of Merit and the Bavarian Constitutional Medal in gold .

Zeller is a Roman Catholic , has been married since 1976 and has three daughters. His daughter Eva Weber has been the second mayor of the city of Augsburg since 2014 , and in 2020 she was elected mayor of the city of Augsburg.
