Eva Weber (* 31 May 1977 in Wangen as Eva Zeller ) is a German politician ( CSU ). She has been Lord Mayor of Augsburg since May 1, 2020 .

Life

Eva Weber is the daughter of the CSU politician and former State Secretary Alfons Zeller . She spent her childhood in her home town of Burgberg in the Allgäu . In 1996 she graduated from high school in Sonthofen . From 1996 to 2002 she studied law in Augsburg and Bayreuth . This was followed by a two-year legal traineeship in Nuremberg . The first professional stations were the Bavarian Savings Banks Association and, from 2005 to 2009, the Swabian Chamber of Commerce and Industry . In April 2009, Eva Weber moved to the economic department of the city of Augsburg as economic coordinator and departmental lawyer. When the then economic advisor fell ill in August 2010, she first became head of the economic department. In July 2011 she was finally appointed as his successor as a professional city councilor and economic advisor.

Weber is married and lives in downtown Augsburg.

In the local elections on March 16, 2014 , Eva Weber took fourth place on the CSU list for the first time. With 41,710 votes, she achieved the second-best result on the CSU list and the third-best result of all 588 candidates (behind the incumbent Mayor Kurt Gribl / 65,840 and SPD top candidate Stefan Kiefer / 44,656). In the city council period from May 2014 Weber holds the dual position of economic and financial advisor. These two tasks were previously carried out in two separate presentations. In addition, at the constituent meeting on May 2, 2014, she was elected 2nd Mayor of the City of Augsburg and thus Deputy Mayor Kurt Gribl. She prevailed against her predecessor Hermann Weber (CSM / not related) with 41 to 17 votes.

On May 27, 2019, Weber was nominated by the Augsburg CSU as candidate for mayor for the local elections on March 15, 2020 . With 43.1 percent she made it into the runoff election with a clear lead. She won this on March 29, 2020 with 62.3 percent against her challenger from the SPD , Dirk Wurm (37.7 percent). Eva Weber has been the new Lord Mayor of Augsburg since May 1, 2020 .

On July 15, 2020, Weber was elected a board member of the Bavarian Association of Cities .
