Triceratops ( Japaneseト ラ イ セ ラ ト ッ プ スToraiseratoppusu ) is a Japanese rock band . The name is derived from the dinosaur of the same name , whose three horns represent the number of band members.

history

Triceratops is comparatively sparing in its own presentation: the bio section on the band's website reveals only a few personal details about the three founders who are still active members today.

Drummer Yoshifumi Yoshida (Japanese 吉田 佳 史 , * 1970) comes from Nagoya and has blood type A, as does bassist Kōji Hayashi (Japanese 林 幸 治 , * 1976), who also comes from Tokyo like Shō Wada (Japanese 和田 唱 , blood type 0) , * 1975).

The first single ( Raspberry ) was released in 1997, the band was founded a year earlier. In Europe and the United States Triceratops are virtually unknown in its Japanese home they counted the meantime for sale guarantors from the perspective of the record companies . A live DVD was released for the third album tour ( Live! "A Film about the Blues" Tour ) and after four albums, Triceratops Greatest was the first best-of compilation from 1997-2001 , each of which was followed by other comparable releases. In 2009 the band belonged to u. a. to the line-up of the Rock In Japan festival .

style

The group mainly uses pop and soft rock elements in their songs . Her lyrics are mostly in Japanese , and many song names are in English . Musical role models and influences of the trio are the Beatles as well as the Rolling Stones as well as younger artists like Mr. Big , U2 and Radiohead .

The respect that is shown to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones in particular is also evident in the fact that Triceratops incorporate pieces from their role models into their sets at concerts. On the tour for the band's 15th anniversary, the concert at the Hibiya Music Bowl was recorded and later released on DVD. There were also screenings in cinemas.
