The Ofterschwanger Horn is a mountain in the Allgäu Alps that rises above the community of Ofterschwang . It is the northernmost peak of the horn group with a height of 1406 meters. A few meters below the main summit there is an east-facing spur at an altitude of 1396 meters. This head is grassy and largely tree-free. There is a stately wooden cross and a spacious area of wooden benches for hikers.
The World Cup Express four-seater chairlift, which starts on the outskirts of Ofterschwang, leads to the hiking trails around the Ofterschwanger Horn. The summit itself is 400 meters south of the cable car mountain station and offers views of the Allgäu mountain ranges: opposite the group of thumbs rises, to the south in the valley head of the Iller tributaries Trettach and Stillach , the Trettachspitze and Mädelegabel rise .
Sports opportunities in summer
An extensive network of mountain and hiking trails enables both challenging mountain tours and leisurely walks on very well-paved paths.
Mountain bikers have discovered the diverse routes around the Ofterschwanger Horn for themselves. A company also offers the option of riding a mountain scooter on a specially prepared route down to the valley.
The Ofterschwanger Horn is also very popular as a starting point for paragliding .
Winter sports
Skiers will find further ascent aids in the summit area; Thanks to its local mountain, Ofterschwang is a ski world cup location. On the Ofterschwanger Horn, Germany's longest snow-making system, at 5,000 meters, guarantees a carefully designed slope landscape for downhill skiing from the summit to the valley. Fifteen kilometers of ski slopes are mostly groomed from the end of Advent to Easter.
Touring skiers like to start crossing the Hörner, which ends at the Riedberger Horn . Hikes with snowshoes open up the quieter regions on the mountain. Winter hiking trails are also usually groomed.
Huts
A large number of privately managed huts flank the Ofterschwanger Horn, e.g. B. the World Cup hut (since 2001), the Hochbichelalp, the Leitenbachhütte, the Wurzelhütte and the Fahnengehrenhütte as well as the Ofterschwanger Haus near the valley station.
