The Trettachspitze is a 2595 meter high mountain in the Allgäu Alps . Due to its bold shape (a very steep, narrow rock horn seen from the west and east) it is one of the most famous mountains in the Allgäu Alps.

Location and surroundings

Together with the Mädelegabel ( 2645  m ) and the Hochfrottspitze ( 2649  m ), it forms the often admired triumvirate above Einödsbach . It is the only high rock summit in the Allgäu Alps that lies entirely on German soil. It is upstream of the Mädelegabel to the north and is often climbed from the Waltenberger house .

At the foot of the Trettachspitze, at the lower end of the Trettachrinne , lies the source of the Trettach .

Ascent and mountaineering

The first ascent was made in 1855 by the brothers Urban , Alois and Mathias Jochum from Birgsau in the Stillachtal . The youngest was just 13 years old.

The Trettachspitze can only be reached by experienced climbers (level of difficulty UIAA II on the north-west ridge, when crossing the north-east and north-west ridge a place UIAA III) with safety equipment.

Further climbing routes lead through each wall. However, only the routes Schwarzer Riss (difficulty V +), Spiel der Geister (VII), and The show must go on (VI), which are also on the west face , are repeated regularly . The other routes are rarely repeated because of the long and dangerous approaches, the often brittle rock and the poor security options. In addition to the route The show must go on , Robert Jasper and Stefan Meineke opened further climbing routes in the west face in the summer of 1991.
