The Waltenbergerhaus is an Alpine Club hut belonging to the Allgäu-Immenstadt section of the German Alpine Club . Where there used to be a 130-year-old stone house, a modern, slightly rounded wooden building with a pent roof has stood since 2017 .

location

The hut is located in the Allgäu Alps near Oberstdorf , below the Mädelegabel on Heilbronner Weg . The direct neighbors are the Rappenseehütte ( 2091  m , approx. 5 hours) and the Kemptner Hütte ( 1846  m , approx. 4 hours).

history

In the summer of 1875, the DuÖAV section Allgäu-Immenstadt in the Allgäu Alps laid the foundation stone for a refuge below the Mädelegabel, the first Alpine Club hut in the Allgäu and the second in the Bavarian Alps and the fifth in the Northern Eastern Alps. Construction was completed just six weeks later. The opening took place on September 5, 1875 in wonderful weather. It was named after him in honor of the section co-founder and then board member Anton Waltenberger . Because of the poor location, however, a new Waltenbergerhaus had to be built in the vicinity nine years later. The Waltenbergerhaus and the Kaufbeurerhaus are the only alpine club huts in the Allgäu Alps that do not have a material cable car and are therefore dependent on being supplied by helicopter.

From 1978 to 2010 Gerhard ("Mandi") Böllmann († 2011 at the age of 64) worked as a hut manager.

In June 2013, the Allgäu-Immenstadt section of the German Alpine Club decided to demolish the hut and replace it with a new building. The demolition work began in September 2015 and the new building could be completed by July 2017. The construction costs should amount to 3.2 million euros.

After more than 2500 helicopter deployments and total costs of 3.4 million euros, the new house was opened on Corpus Christi.
