The Kemptner Hütte is an alpine club hut in the Allgäu Alps .
The shelter belongs to the Allgäu-Kempten section of the German Alpine Club and is (in terms of the number of overnight accommodations) one of the largest huts in the Alps.
location
The hut is located on grassy slopes, which are towered over by 2200 to 2300 m high rocky mountains. It is located between the Oberstdorf and Memminger Hütte stations on the European long-distance hiking trail E5 and at the entrance to the Heilbronner Weg between Oberstdorf and the Rappenseehütte .
history
The hut was built in 1891 as the 34th hut of the DÖAV in the Northern Eastern Alps and has been managed from 1893. In 1903 the hut was expanded for the first time. In 1925 a barrack extension and an outbuilding were built. In 1930 the Kemptner Hütte was expanded for the second time, the building from 1891 was demolished and the east wing was rebuilt. In 1954 the outbuilding with winter room was inaugurated. The material ropeway was built in 1969 and modernized in 2000. In 1982 the Kemptner Hütte was connected to the long-distance water network and in 1993 received a sewage treatment plant . In 2018, a sewer pipe to Oberstdorf was put into operation. Today up to 290 people can sleep in the hut.
