Remote water supply

A long-distance water supply is a pipeline network through which drinking water is transported over long distances to one or more supply areas. The procurement of drinking water from other regions is necessary if there is no or insufficient drinking water supply in the supply areas or if its development is ecologically or economically unacceptable.

Long-distance water supplies are mainly operated by municipal companies or special-purpose associations .
