The Kemptener Naturfreundehaus is a year-round refuge in the Allgäu Alps in the municipality of Immenstadt in the Allgäu, built between 1921 and 1923 .
geography
The hut is located on a plateau between the Gschwender Horn (1450 m) north and the Roten Kopf (1482 m) south, in a clearing in the Krummholzzone at an altitude of 1415 m above sea level. NN . The main European watershed runs right next to the hut . A source brook rises about 150 m south of the Weißach , which drains over Lake Constance and the Rhine to the North Sea . The springs 100 m north, however, flow to the Konstanzer Ach , which feeds into the Black Sea via the Iller and Danube .
history
The refuge was inaugurated on August 25, 1923 by the Kempten and Immenstadt local group of Friends of Nature Germany as part of a mountain festival . During the Nazi era , the Friends of Nature were banned as an organization and their property was confiscated. After the Second World War , the idea came back to life and the house could gradually be adapted to the increasing needs of its visitors. The water supply, sewage treatment plant, outbuildings, youth rooms and tenant apartment have been refurbished or renovated several times over the years of the hut's existence, with a lot of personal contribution from the members.
In 2018 the house had 119 accommodations, a guest room for 100 people, conference rooms, a children's playground and a petting zoo. The hut is also suitable for company outings and larger groups.
Access and tours
The hut can be accessed directly from Immenstadt or Rieder , in one and a half to two hours' walk. The hut serves as the starting point for the Nagelfluh ridge hike , over which the European long-distance hiking trails E4 and E5 run. In winter, a variety of ski tours are possible , including on the surrounding peaks of the Gschwender and Immenstädter Horn .
