Robert Jasper (born April 15, 1968 in Waldshut-Tiengen ) is a German extreme mountaineer .

Life

Robert Jasper grew up in the Black Forest and learned to climb there and in the Swiss Jura Mountains near Basel . He is a sports instructor , state-certified mountain and ski guide and mountain guide trainer. He is married to Daniela Jasper , she is also an extreme mountaineer. You live in Schopfheim and have two children. Robert Jasper is the brother of the cameraman Bernhard Jasper .

Mountain sports

Jasper became famous in the climbing scene in 1991 when he single-handedly climbed the three large north faces of the Eiger , Grandes Jorasses and Matterhorn on difficult routes. The north face of the Eiger in particular attracted Jasper again and again in the following years. The most notable successes were the first solo ascent of the Spit verdonesque édenté route ( VIII , A1 ), the first free ascent of Yeti (IX +) and the opening of the first Eiger route in the tenth degree of difficulty with Symphonie de liberté (X-) together with Mrs. Daniela. In 2009, he was with Roger Schäli the Japanese Direttissima (8a) for the first time rotpunkt climbing, 2010, the John Harlin Diretissima (7a M8; 20 to 23 September 2010). At the Grandes Jorasses, Jasper was able to freely commit the mixed route No Siesta ( M8 ) for the first time. On the Matterhorn, he made the first ascent of Route Freedom (VIII-, A2). In addition, he achieved numerous, most difficult solo and first ascent on rock and ice.

At Cerro Murallón in Patagonia , he and Stefan Glowacz opened the route Gone by the Wind (IX +, A2, M5) on the north pillar in 2005, which earned them a nomination for the Piolet d'Or . He was able to climb Cerro Torre in a record time of 16.5 hours from base camp.
