Uwe Adolf Otto Kekeritz (born October 9, 1953 in Haslach / Oy-Mittelberg ) is a German politician ( Greens ), economist and member of the German Bundestag since 2009 .

Professional background

After graduating from high school, Uwe Kekeritz went to London and initially studied English as a foreign language. After returning to Germany, he stayed in Nuremberg and graduated in 1987 from the economics and social sciences faculty of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg with a degree in economics . From 1982 to 1988 he worked as an independent consultant for small businesses and start-ups. In 1988 he moved with his family to Cameroon for two years, where he taught mathematics and English as a teacher at a secondary school through the German Development Service (DED).

He continued his teaching activity in Germany. In addition to caring for his two children as a househusband from 1990 to 2000, he increasingly worked as a freelance lecturer for various private and public educational institutions in the field of IT and the reintegration of job seekers.

In the early 1970s, Kekeritz took part in a number of actions and initiatives of the peace, anti-nuclear and environmental movements.

In 1990 he joined Alliance 90 / The Greens. In the following years he was initially involved at the municipal level: for 16 years as a district councilor in the Neustadt / Aisch-Bad Windsheim district and was elected to the Uffenheim city council in 2008.

In 2009 he ran in constituency 243 Fürth and won a mandate in the German Bundestag in the 2009 Bundestag elections, ranking 10th on his party's state list. There he is a member of the Committee for Economic Cooperation and Development. From 2009 to 2013 Kekeritz was chairman of the subcommittee “Health in Developing Countries” and spokesman for health in developing countries. Kekeritz resigned his office as secretary of the Bundestag in February 2011 in order to take a public position against the obligation to wear a tie in this office.

In 2013 he was able to return to the Bundestag at number 6 on the list. In the 18th legislative period, Kekeritz was a member and chairman of the Committee for Economic Cooperation and Development, as well as being the spokesman for development policy for the Green parliamentary group. In addition, he was a deputy member of the sub-committee for “Civilian Crisis Prevention, Conflict Management and Networked Action”.

In the elections on September 24, 2017 for the 19th German Bundestag, Kekeritz once again managed to get into the Bundestag above the 4th list position of the Bavarian Greens.

In the 19th German Bundestag , Kekeritz is deputy chairman of the committee for economic cooperation and development. He is also a deputy member of the Finance Committee and the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Sustainable Development .

OECD complaint

After the fire disaster in the Bangladeshi Tazreen factory, Kekeritz filed an OECD complaint against the companies KiK , C & A and Karl Rieker. While the negotiations with Karl Riecker in favor of Kekeritz were concluded, no agreement could be reached with the textile discounter KiK. The proceedings against C&A have not yet been concluded. In order to achieve the goal of legally anchored environmental and social standards for the entire supply chain, he also introduced various parliamentary initiatives in the Bundestag (general, conflict minerals, palm oil, etc.).

Memberships and awards

Uwe Kekeritz is a member of the North-South Advisory Board of the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the ASA Program Advisory Board. In addition, he sits on the advisory board of the German Evaluation Institute for Development Cooperation (DEval), on the Parliamentary Advisory Board for Population and Development of the World Population Foundation (DSW) and is a permanent representative of his parliamentary group in the General Assembly of Welthungerhilfe.

Uwe Kekeritz received the Memento Prize for his commitment against neglected and poverty-related diseases .
