Maria Rain (Bavaria)

Maria Rain is a climatic health resort and pilgrimage site in the Oberallgäu district and lies above the Wertach Valley, which forms the border with the Ostallgäu district. The place is part of the municipality Oy-Mittelberg .

Maria Rain is located at a height of 900 meters directly in front of the Allgäu Alps. Well-known peaks in the immediate vicinity are the Alpspitz near Nesselwang and the Grünten . When visibility is good, the Säuling bei Füssen and the Zugspitze can also be seen . Well-known places and cities in the immediate vicinity are Kempten , Nesselwang and Pfronten .

Around 500 people live in the village and the neighboring hamlets of Bachtel, Bichel, Guggemoos , Rainen and Stich.

Pilgrimage Church of the Holy Cross

The baroque pilgrimage church of St. Cross is located in the lower part . Mainly believers from Bavaria make a pilgrimage to the church, the outer facade of which was renovated in 2004.

Construction of the church began in 1497, and structural changes were made in 1648, 1707 and 1760. The church also includes the neighboring rectory , the front part of which has been renovated and is used for activities in the village, and the rear part of which is still in its historical state.
