The Säuling is a mountain on the German-Austrian border in the Ammergau Alps ( northern Limestone Alps ). legend

According to legend, the summit plateau of the Säulings is used by the witches as a dance floor. According to another legend, the devil himself tore off a rock from the column and threw it in the direction of Roßhaupten ; but when the evening bell could be heard, the stone fell straight to the ground and lay in front of the village. The monolith can still be visited today; a cross was placed in it.

Name origin

Today it is assumed that Säuling , derived from Siulinc , means something like column, which would also correspond to the massive shape.
