Romuald Schaber, as chairman of BDM and EMB, represents the interests of 100,000 European dairy farmers

Romuald Schaber (* 1957 in Petersthal ) is the current chairman and founder of the Bundesverband Deutscher Milchviehhalter (BDM) e. V. and the European umbrella organization European Milk Board .

Life

Schaber originally learned the mason trade . In Petersthal in the Allgäu, at an altitude of 900 meters, he manages a 35  hectare pure grassland farm with 40  dairy cows and 40  young animals . His farm produces an average daily milk yield of 900 liters of milk.

In 1998 he founded the registered association of the Federal Association of German Dairy Farmers , which in 2008 had 33,000 members and represented around a third of the approximately 100,000 dairy farms in Germany at the time  . On April 27, 2009, Schaber took part in a milk summit with 20 other representatives of the dairy industry and Federal Agriculture Minister Ilse Aigner . Romuald Schaber is married and has five children.

Positions

Schaber is of the opinion that "the German Farmers Association represents the interests of the dairy industry, but not that of the dairy farmers". The two milk strikes he helped initiate in 2008 and 2009 resulted in over 30 percent of milk producers cutting off the flow of milk to the dairy industry, in the Black Forest near Alsace even 70 percent. He sees the full cost price for full-time and part-time dairy farms at 40 cents per liter of milk. On October 5, 2010, he presented his book Blood Milk in the house of the Federal Press Conference in Berlin .
