The 17th Freestyle Skiing World Championships will take place from March 7th to 19th, 2017 in the Spanish Sierra Nevada . They are held at the same time as the snowboard world championships , so after 2015 there will be a "double world championship" for freestyle skiing and snowboarding for the second time .

The FIS awarded the competitions to the only candidate on June 5, 2012 at its congress in Kangwonland ( South Korea ).

The 1996 Alpine World Ski Championships had already taken place in the ski area ; The 2015 Winter Universiade took place in Granada , about 30  km away . At the beginning of the 2013 season, the Sulayr snow park was rebuilt.
