Aaron Blunck (born April 12, 1996 in Denver ) is an American freestyle skier . He starts in the halfpipe discipline .

Career

Blunck has been participating in the AFP World Tour competitions since 2010 . He got his first podium finishes in the 2010/11 season with second places at the Revolution Tour in Copper Mountain and at the Gatorade FreeFlow Tour in Avon . He made his World Cup debut in December 2012 in Copper Mountain , which he finished in 22nd place. He won the bronze medal at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Kühtai . In February 2012, he finished second on the Gatorade FreeFlow Tour in Brighton . Two months later he became the American halfpipe champion. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he came in third place in the Pipe Open Series in Copper Mountain . In the further course of the season he won the Aspen / Snowmass Freeskiing Open and came second at the US Grand Prix and World Cup in Copper Mountain . At the 2013 World Championships in Oslo , he finished sixth. He finished the season in fourth place in the AFP World Tour overall standings and in the Halfpipe World Cup.

At the beginning of the 2013/14 season, he came second at the World Cup in Cardrona . That season he won the US Grand Prix and World Cup in Copper Mountain and came second at the US Grand Prix in Park City . In his first Olympic participation in Sochi in 2014 , he finished seventh in the first ever halfpipe competition. At the end of the season he reached second place in the Halfpipe World Cup and in the AFP World Tour Halfpipe evaluation. The following year he finished 13th at the Winter X Games 2015 . In the 2015/16 season he took third place at the US Grand Prix and World Cup in Mammoth and won in Park City . At the Winter X Games 2016 he came in tenth place and at the X Games Oslo 2016 in seventh place. At the end of the season, he finished seventh in the overall World Cup and second in the Halfpipe World Cup.

After third place in the World Cup and US Grand Prix in Copper Mountain at the beginning of the 2016/17 season, he won the gold medal on the superpipe at the Winter X Games 2017 in Aspen . In February 2017 he finished second in the World Cup in Pyeongchang and reached third place in the Halfpipe World Cup. He won the gold medal in the halfpipe at the 2017 World Championships in Sierra Nevada . In the 2017/18 season he achieved four top ten placements, including third place in Snowmass, 32nd place in the overall World Cup and sixth place in the Halfpipe World Cup. The Winter X Games 2018 in Aspen, he was eighth and at the Winter Olympics in 2018 in Pyeongchang seventh.

At the 2019 World Championships in Park City , Blunck was able to successfully defend his world title. In winter 2019/20 he won the Halfpipe World Cup with two wins and two more podium places. He finished eighth at the 2019 Winter X Games and won the silver medal the following year.
