Kyle Smaine (born June 27, 1991 ) is an American freestyle skier . He starts in the halfpipe discipline .

Career

Smaine has participated in competitions of the FIS and the AFP World Tour since 2008 . He made his World Cup debut in January 2009 in Park City , which he finished in 11th place. In the 2011/12 season he won the Revolution Tour in Northstar at Tahoe and the North Face Park and Pipe Open Series in Northstar at Tahoe. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season he finished third at The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series in Copper Mountain . This was followed by another third place at the Aspen / Snowmass Freeskiing Open in Aspen that season . At the beginning of the following season he won the USSA Revolution Tour at Copper Mountain . In the further course of the season he achieved his first top ten placements in the World Cup with sixth place in Park City and ninth place in Tignes . In January 2015 he became world champion on the halfpipe at the Freestyle Skiing World Championships on Kreischberg . He finished the World Cup season in eighth place in the Halfpipe World Cup. In the 2015/16 season he finished ninth at the Winter X Games 2016 in Aspen and eighth at the X Games Oslo 2016 . In the 2017/18 season he clinched his first World Cup victory in Mammoth and finished second at the Aspen Snowmass Freeskiing Open.
