David John Morris (born August 31, 1984 in Melbourne , Australia ) is an Australian freestyle skier . He specializes in the aerials (jumping) discipline.

biography

Morris was born in Melbourne and lived temporarily with his family in Denmark from 1995 to 1997 . In 2011 he graduated from RMIT University . When he's not training and competing in the northern hemisphere, he works as a math and physical education teacher.

Morris played his first international competitions in February 2007 as part of the North American Continental Cup (Nor-Am Cup). After several top 10 placements, he achieved his first victory in this series of competitions a year later. He made his debut in the Freestyle World Cup on January 30, 2009 in Deer Valley , where he finished 27th. The best result this season was 18th place at the 2009 World Cup in Inawashiro . In the 2009/10 season he made it into the top ten of the World Cup for the first time, and at the 2010 Winter Olympics he finished 13th.

During the 2010/11 season, Morris established himself just behind the top of the world and jumped to 14th place at the 2011 World Cup in Deer Valley. Due to an injury, he had to pause almost the entire 2011/12 season. On January 18, 2013, he jumped to third place in Lake Placid and thus achieved the first World Cup podium. His only World Cup victory so far was on February 23, 2013 in Bukovel . He narrowly missed the desired medal win at the 2013 World Cup in Voss in fourth. However, this he achieved with second place at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi .

After a year break, Morris returned to the World Cup in winter 2015/16 and achieved two second and one third place. There were no further World Cup podiums in the winter of 2016/17 (the best result was a 5th place), but he won the bronze medal at the 2017 World Cup in Sierra Nevada .
