From 2009 to 2013, Bohonnon mainly participated in the Nor-Am Cup. He won three races and took third place in the Aerials discipline in the 2011/12 season. In the World Cup he made his debut in Lake Placid in January 2012 and achieved 19th place. Two years later he achieved his first World Cup podium finish in Val St. Come with second place. In his first Olympic participation in Sochi in 2014 , he finished fifth. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season, he finished third in Beijing . In the further course of the season he won his first World Cup victories in Lake Placid and Moscow . In Deer Valley and Minsk he came in second place and finished the season in second place in the overall World Cup and first place in the Aerials World Cup. At the 2015 Freestyle Skiing World Championships on Kreischberg , he came in 14th.
In the 2015/16 season, Bohonnon was one of the top ten in six World Cup competitions. He won in Moscow in February 2016 and reached tenth place in the Aerials World Cup at the end of the season. In the following season he finished 13th in the overall World Cup and second in the Aerials World Cup. He came third in Pyeongchang and second in Lake Placid. At the season highlight of the 2017 Freestyle Skiing World Championships in the Sierra Nevada , he was tenth.
Bohonnon has taken part in 29 World Cup races so far and has placed in the top ten 15 times (as of the end of the 2016/17 season). In 2015 he became the American champion in the aerials discipline.
