Eckert, who starts for the WSV Samerberg and works for the Federal Police , began his sports career as an alpine ski racer . He competed in FIS races from 2005 to 2006 . He came to ski cross by chance when a teammate who did not want to start alone persuaded him to take part. Eckert completed his first ski cross European cup race on December 21, 2008 in Grasgehren and finished in 47th place. He made his debut in the World Cup on March 14, 2009 in Meiringen - Hasliberg , finishing in 64th place. In January 2011 he achieved his first top ten placement in the World Cup with ninth place in Grasgehren. At the 2011 World Championships in Deer Valley , he finished 20th.
In the 2014/15 season , Eckert made it into the top ten seven times in eleven World Cup appearances. With third place each in Åre and Megève, he achieved his first podium finishes in the World Cup and thus achieved fourth place in the Skicross World Cup. At the season highlight, the 2015 World Championships on Kreischberg , he finished fourth. In the following season 2015/16 he achieved two top ten results in the World Cup, including second place in the Phoenix Snow Park ; so he finished 16th in the Ski Cross World Cup. At the 2017 World Championships in the Sierra Nevada , he finished 23rd. On January 20, 2018, he achieved his first World Cup victory in the Nakiska ski area .
Eckert has taken part in 85 World Cup races so far and has placed in the top ten 16 times. (As of February 7, 2018)
