Katrin Ofner (born March 5, 1990 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian freestyle skier . She specializes in the ski cross discipline and is the niece of the former Nordic combined athlete Klaus Ofner .
biography
Ofner was initially an alpine ski runner and started an FIS race for the first time in January 2006 as a 15-year-old . This was followed by nine more in the slalom and giant slalom disciplines , the last in February 2007. As the best place she achieved a 40th place.
A few weeks after her first alpine FIS race, Ofner contested her first ski cross race on February 17, 2006 at the Austrian championships in St. Johann in Tirol . A year later she won the first of a total of ten Austrian championship titles. She has been competing in the World Cup since the 2007/08 season , and in her first race on January 12, 2008 in Les Contamines , she achieved twelfth place. In her fourth World Cup race, on February 22, 2008 in the Sierra Nevada , she was third on the podium behind Ophélie David and Hedda Berntsen . With placements among the top 15 in all seven World Cup competitions, she finished ninth in the Ski Cross World Cup at the end of the season.
In the following World Cup season 2008/09 Ofner again reached third place in Les Contamines. This was followed by four more top 10 placements. At the Winter Universiade 2009 in Yabuli , she won the gold medal. Shortly afterwards it was enough to place 17th at the 2009 World Championships in Inawashiro . The 2009/10 season was less successful for Ofner, her best placing was an eighth place. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver , she was eliminated in the round of 16 and finished 23rd. In contrast, she won the silver medal at the 2010 Junior World Championships, which took place in Cardrona , New Zealand in August . Ofner's best results in the 2010/11 World Cup season were two sixth places. At the 2011 World Championships in Deer Valley , she advanced to the final run, but narrowly missed a medal in fourth.
In the World Cup of the 2011/12 season , a second place was added, in the 2012/13 season a fifth place was the best result. Ofner finished sixth at the 2013 World Championships in Voss . During the 2013/14 season she achieved third place in the World Cup, and at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , she finished sixth. Ofner also stayed just behind the world's best in the 2014/15 and 2015/16 winters . You get two second and a third place. She achieved another third place during the 2016/17 season .
